Believe. Act. Succeed. Your future is shaped by what you do right now, explains Marsha Egan

I was struck by two separate quotes that combine to capture the essence of success. Each of them carries provocative insights that, when intertwined, have an even more powerful message. Let’s explore how this synergy can embolden your forward progress and get you to your destination even faster.

Believe you can and you’re halfway there.

Theodore Roosevelt

Haven’t we all experienced moments when self-doubt creeps in just as we’re about to take on something significant? This quote serves to reassure us, reminding us that our belief in our capabilities can propel us forward even before we begin. Mind over matter. The essence of self-belief reflected in Roosevelt’s words is like a compass guiding us through uncharted waters.

Imagine standing at the threshold of a new idea or facing a tough challenge. Something scary, something daunting, or even something new. Now, visualize yourself confidently taking those first steps towards conquering it. Tell yourself, “I got this.” That very act of believing in your potential sets you up for taking the first small (or giant) step forward. Your brain and your mindset are in essence the start of that first step.

The future depends on what you do today.

Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi’s timeless wisdom captures the notion that the actions we take in the present lay the groundwork for everything future. Every action we take today can impact our tomorrow.

Consider your life actions like a grand tapestry. The choices you make, the tasks you complete, and the efforts you invest are the threads that weave its intricate pattern. Every small action today contributes to the masterpiece that our future becomes. Action building upon action. Your future is shaped by what you do RIGHT NOW.

Belief and Action for a Fulfilling Journey

In life’s journey, belief is like the gas in the car, and taking action is like pressing the accelerator. You need both to get to your destination, don’t you?

You need gas, or fuel, to be able to move forward. Your belief in yourself is that fuel. Without belief, your forward action is not possible, just as a car cannot move without gas. Self-doubt and fear cause procrastination. Your ability to muster the self-confidence you need to enable action directly impacts your success. It fuels your belief in your abilities.

And once the car is filled with gas, once you have that belief, you can press the accelerator. You can take effective action. Understand that your actions of today directly impact tomorrow’s results, just as today’s inaction can stagnate progress. Action is the accelerator that takes you to your dream destinations. And just as important is the understanding that focused action is the action toward a goal that will move you toward your destination.

Your Empowering Call to Action

Now comes the moment to embrace these two quotes and realize their synergy.

Believe you can and you’re halfway there

Identify a goal you’ve been doubting. Commit it to paper and place it where you’ll see it daily. Each time you glance at it, remind yourself, “I can do it.” This belief will add strength for you to move forward. It is like putting gas in that car.

The future depends on what you do today

Choose a task that will help you achieve one of your goals. Commit to taking a step, no matter how modest, today. That thing you keep putting off? That’s your future slipping through your fingers. Whether it’s starting a healthy habit, chasing that dream job, or learning a new skill, take a step today. By doing so, you’re actively contributing to the future you envision. It is like pressing the accelerator on that car.

Remember, you’ve got the power to shape your destiny. Belief sets the stage, and action steals the show. So, embrace the belief that you’re capable, and then go out there and make your future happen.
