Passionate about Spreadsheets | Founder of Excel Ace

Traci Williams is a self confessed ‘spreadsheet geek’ and has spent more than half of her life working with Excel spreadsheets. She has an infectious enthusiasm and a genuine passion for showing people how ‘simple’ Excel can be, how much time they can save by using it correctly, and even makes it seem like ‘Fun’!!!

Traci founded Excel Ace in 2008, leaving her career in accountancy, as she was frustrated at not having enough time to show colleagues how ‘ACE’ and simple Excel could be.

Her mission with Excel Ace is to help people to love Excel as much as she does, or at the very least, not be afraid of it.

In February 2025, Traci was awarded a Microsoft Excel Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award. This prestigious recognition highlights Traci’s dedication to sharing her deep Excel knowledge, empowering users, and driving innovation.

  • Blank Sheet to Brilliant: Mastering Expenses in Excel

    Starting from a blank workbook, Traci will guide you through a step-by-step process to build a complete, professional expense management system in Excel.

    We’ll begin by designing a user-friendly template using data validation to reduce entry errors, formulas to automate calculations, and built-in checks to flag mistakes.

    You’ll learn how to protect and structure your file with locked and unlocked cells to maintain control while allowing flexibility where needed.

    Once the template is built, we’ll take it to the next level using Power Query. You’ll discover how to import and consolidate multiple expense files from a folder, ideal for rolling up monthly reports or department-level spending, without having to copy and paste a single line of data.

    We’ll wrap up by creating a clean and simple dashboard that gives you clear, real-time insights into your spending.

    This session is perfect for Excel users who want to streamline expense tracking, reduce manual work, and eliminate common errors. You’ll leave with a ready-to-use system and practical techniques you can apply to your own files right away.

  • Introducing the ‘POWER’ of Power Query in Excel

    Power Query is an extremely powerful (and hugely under-utilised) tool in Excel that can consolidate and transform data from multiple sources in seconds, negating the need for complex formulas and calculations on the face of a spreadsheet, and therefore eliminating the risk of them breaking, or being accidentally overwritten.

    In this session, I’ll demonstrate the power of this function, showing a couple of different scenarios and also comparing it to the alternative methods, to really highlight the benefits.

    This exciting session will cover lots of simple little tricks that can speed up your use of Excel and make your life easier….without you needing to become any sort of Excel expert.

    It will include a combination of keyboard shortcuts, fabulous formulas as well as some MUST USE functions.

    You will wonder why nobody has ever told you about these before!

  • Exciting Event Dashboards in Excel

    In this session Traci will demonstrate how to build a complete event dashboard, starting with a blank spreadsheet and resulting in a 1-page visual summary of the event, follow-up actions and a to-do list that can be manipulated (to enable drill-down) simply and easily.

    The session will be jam-packed with lots of ACE tips and tricks from the formatting and creating pick lists, to pivot tables and pivot charts.

    The template is generated throughout the session and will also be available to download.

    They say a picture paints a thousand words, and when it comes to numbers, data and specifically spreadsheets, that’s definitely true! People can look at numbers, and easily miss the obvious, but pop those numbers into a pretty little chart, and not only will people WANT to look at it, but the obvious will also jump right out and fail to be ignored!

    This session will show you how to create your own gorgeous dashboards; update them at the touch of a button when new data becomes available, and also drill into the detail as required… and this is all super simple to do too (Honest!).

  • The Magic of Macros in Excel Spreadsheets

    We’ve all had tasks before that are boring and repetitive, but we have to complete them week in, week out.

    The good news is that there is a better way – and that is to use some ‘magic macros’ to complete the task for you.

    Not only will macros save you from the boring job, but they will complete the task in a fraction of the time.  Macros also increase accuracy as they remove the risk of human error (none of us are perfect!).

    This session will show you the simple way to generate a macro, and also explain the ‘hidden code’ that is created in the background, and how we can edit it.
